It's precise the people whom we're biased against, whom we have an animus against, who most need civil rights. It's precisely when we presume someone to be guilty (because we have an animus against them) that it's important for us to be disciplined in proceeding with the assumption that they're innocent until proven guilty.

Yeah, I spent quite a lot of time talking to the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA). They're operating in a legislative vacuum, with absolutely no oversight or guidance other than parliament… and parliament doesn't care. The one court-precedent they work with is R. v. Simmons (1988), and the main impact of this on their practice is that they insist that you "are not being detained" (when you are) because if you were detained, you'd have rights (such as the right to remain silent)… and you don't. :-/ Someone needs to press ahead and bring this issue to Parliament (set down some "common sense" laws and guidelines for how the border works)… but it won't be me, because I'm currently living in Taiwan.

Did they have "scientific evidence" to suggest that a teenager (in a bathing suit) covering herself in manure would be an effective form of activism? DxE (Direct Action Everywhere) was founded with the promise that DxE's methods would be BETTER than P.E.T.A., because they'd be based in "social science research… but now they just do the same sort of publicity-seeking stunts P.E.T.A. always did. DxE is "not an organization" with "no leaders"… and is definitely "not a cult"… and yet it does indeed have a leader named Wayne, who promised he'd be so much better than P.E.T.A. thanks to those "scientific" methods he'd learned… but, instead, it really is just more teenagers in bikinis, and boasts about going to jail / ending up behind bars, for one publicity stunt or another. Yeah, this could have been titled, "Why I hate vegan activism in 2019", or just "vegan cringe compilation", I suppose, but it's a slightly philosophical discussion about the teenagers of Direct Action Everywhere, and the fully grown people who seem to exploit them for self-promotion. #vegancringe #veganactivism #veganism

My argument is not that video games are "objectively bad", but few people seem to be willing to take a subjective argument seriously: if something is, subjectively, a problem, that doesn't mean that you can dismiss it as something unreal.
